No New Offshore Drilling!

Accepted : Two days ago, President Obama released a proposed plan for where oil and gas companies could drill off our coasts in the next five years. This news w as a stunning blow to the people of Alaska, because just last week, President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stood together and pledged climate action to protect the Arctic. As an Alaskan resident and someone who has been fighting for climate justice for years, I thought: finally, the President is doing the right thing. But just days after that pledge to protect the Arctic, President Obama released a plan that opened up parts of it to oil companies. This is not the climate action he promised and we need YOU to help point out this contradiction. Send a message today! The offshore oil and gas program Obama presented allows new drilling in parts of Alaska and Gulf of Mexico — despite the clear risks of oil spills, threats to coastal communities and their way of life, and the ongoing threat of catastrophic climate change. Thousands of people — people like you — stood up and demanded that the government keep drills out of the Atlantic, and President Obama listened, removing the Atlantic from this plan. Now it’s time for us to ride this momentum to keep oil drills out of the Arctic and Gulf — and keep fossil fuels in the ground. YOU got Shell to leave the Arctic. YOU protected the Atlantic from oil drills. Now YOU can convince the President to protect the Arctic and the Gulf once and for all. Send President Obama a message today. Thank you, Christina-Alexa Liakos Alaskan Organizer, Greenpeace P.S. Every day in Alaska, I witness the impacts of climate change on our communities and way of life. More drilling will only make it worse. Tell President Obama to stick to his words and protect the Arctic by keeping fossil fuels in the ground here and in the Gulf.
